Sleepy Drivers DieSleep Disorders Australia has launched a campaign in Queensland sponsored by the RACQ that is aimed at raising awareness and educating people about the dangers of driving without adequate sleep. Read more about the campaign here.
October 2017 - the Branch AGM was held on 31 August 2017 at Chapel Hill. The same officers were reelected for another year.
AS well as delivering some presentations to local groups, I recently attended a Lung Net seminar at Chermside. I found once again, that patients are not necessarily receiving the best information on their CPAP treatment. Our information booklets were well received.
August 2017 - There has been an increase in the number of patients needing assistance with CPAP. I have been able to help the majority with donated machines.
I have a number of presentations booked for the rest of the year, which I find is the best way to get the message across to people about how to manage sleep problems.
I am currently trialling a mouth guard which has been produced by a local dentist. It is principally designed to replace using a chin strap. To date, I have found it useful and it has improved my sleep time using mt CPAP.
June 2017 - The annual Healthy Living Expo held during May was a success, and I had many enquiries from current CPAP users and people wanting more information on various sleep disorders.
I also presented a talk to a local Probus Club. I continue to find people who are in need of advice, and don't necessarily get the right information from their current medical practioners.
April 2017 - The year commenced with an increase in calls for assistance from patients needing CPAP on loan or looking to purchase second-hand units. I have also had many calls from people wanting information on where to go for treatment of sleep related problems.
The QLD Branch have a presentation for the Logan Women's Health Group on 31 March, which was well received by the audience. We also had a stand at the Mt Gravatt Lions Health and Wellbeing EXPO at the Acacia Ridge Hotel on 30 March, where we provided lots of information and spoke to many people about various sleep disorders.
